But I enjoyed my day off with escape to foreign climes... went to India! Yes, it seems to be a new trend in the romances, adventure in the subcontinent during the late 1700s early 1800s. Two of my favorite authors brought out books with part of the story set in India. Lauren Willig's latest Carnation is BETRAYAL OF THE BLOOD LILY and Stephanie Laurens new quartet, the Black Cobra.
Lauren Willig has taken us all over England and parts of France with her amazing series of spies during the Napoleonic era, but now she's taking us off to India with a bride who's perhaps made a not-so-wise choice in trying to escape her life.
Captain Alex Reid has better things to do than play nursemaid to a pair of aristocrats. Or so he thinks-until Lady Frederick Staines out-shoots, out-rides, and out-swims every man in the camp. She also has an uncanny ability to draw out the deadly plans of the Marigold and put herself in harm's way. With danger looming from local warlords, treacherous court officials, and French spies, Alex realizes that an alliance with Lady Staines just might be the only thing standing in the way of a plot designed to rock the very foundations of the British Empire...
Stephanie Laurens' newest series, Black Cobra Quartet, is about a group of soldiers. "They're battle-hardened, sinfully wealthy, completely unstoppable — and all male: Four officers of the Crown, fighting against a deadly foe known only as the Black Cobra. " And they're on a deadly race from India to England to reveal the enemy. Along the way, each officer finds his soul mate in a "bride." So far the first two books have been vintage Laurens with enough glimpses of other inhabitants of Laurens' England to keep me on my toes.

THE UNTAMED BRIDE, Del Delborough and Delilah's story. He is a man who has faced peril without flinching, determined to fight for king and country. She is a bold, beautiful woman with a scandalous past, destined to become an untamed bride. Together they must vanquish the ruthless enemy, while confronting the dangers of the heart...
Another interesting item this week was Margot Adler's Vampire Book List. She read 75, yes seventy-five vampire books and watched a couple of films and television shows featuring vampires. I added the list to the site with a few of my notes and discovered although I thought I was well-read, I've actually missed a few. I think I have ten or so to discover. So, if you're a vampire aficionado, what do you think of her list? What did she miss? Do you agree or not?
But to finish off today's posting I need to ask. So where do you go when you need to get away? Or what is interesting to you when your world is cold, frozen and not-so-interesting? Tell us and you'll be entered to win something from the Fresh Fiction grab bag! We've been going to book signings and have a some books to give away! Comment to win...
