Sandi Shilhanek | Readers’n’Ritas
Have you ever attended an event that while you were looking forward to the event you were a bit nervous about what would happen while you were there, and would it be an enjoyable time for all? That’s how I felt going into last weekend and the Readers’n’Ritas event.
On Friday as the committee was putting the finishing touches on goodie bags we received a once in a lifetime opportunity. Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love who were in town for both Readers’n’Ritas and another event the same weekend had no dinner plans, and would love to have dinner with the committee. Wow! What an opportunity for true Kenyon/Love fans of which I really wasn’t.
Dinner was at a fabulous place near my home, and to which I had never been. Now I’m wondering how I can get my family back there once again, but I digress. Having the chance to sit and chat almost one on one with these two wonderful ladies and hearing their stories of writing success has me thinking zillions of fans can’t be wrong! What am I missing by not having these authors in my collection?
The Readers’n’Ritas event gave me the opportunity to not only get to know these authors better, but also to gain some insight into the personal lives of several other authors. While there are too many to mention, the one who stands out for me the most is Lauren Willig, an author who writes historical romances another genre I don’t normally read. Once again in having the chance to chat with her about life, and the writing world from her point of view I’m thinking so all my friends who rave about her definitely know something that I don’t and that I should add this author to my shelves as well.
I really could go on and on about how Readers’n’Ritas went, but I have to go now…I have book shopping to do, and then once all those lovely books are mine I have reading to indulge in! One last thought though…who was the last author you decided to pick up and read because of having met them, or having heard something that so touched you you just had to support the author?

Wow, what a wonderful time, Sandi!
That sound like a fabulous time. I think I would get all tongue tied if I ever met an author. I am in such awe of that profession.
I recently read a Nocturne Bites by Vivi Anna, partly because of her contest at eharlequin but I really liked it and ended up downloading another 2 books and Kaelee, from the eharlequin boards just went to a book signing that incuded a bunch af authors at a bookstore in Calgary and was able to snag a signed book by Vivi for me.
How awesome that you had dinner with Dianne and Sherrilyn :)
I would have to say that I am now a fan of Jaye Wells after meeting her at the Readers'n'Ritas get together :) I've already pre-ordered her book, Red-Headed Stepchild :)
Nice job, Sandi! I loved reading your event report--and the pictures were a big plus! You even got them all in the right places. I can't tell you how impressed I am. I ended up with three pictures of my book cover at the top of my last blog, all in the attempt to get one picture at the bottom, lol!
Glad you had such a great time at Readers n'Ritas! I'll bet the authors were as pleased to meet you as you were to meet them.
Suzanne
Ritas rocked this year! Definitely looking forward to next year.
I'm also looking forward to Jaye's book. I'm loving the title.
Sounds like a fabulous time Sandi! I have never met an author except through the online community but I have to say that I have picked up books based on blog posts and synopsis posted on various blogs etc.
Great post, enjoy your day!
Thanks to all for the comments! I truly felt blessed to be able to be a part of such a fun weekend. Of course the downside was a lack of sleep, but isn't that overrated anyway?
I think Fresh Fiction and their staff should be proud of the hard work they put forth in both Readers'nRitas and the other event for the weekend.
Sandi
Sounds like you had a wonderful time and it was wonderful that those authors showed up and just wanted to talk to you all. That must have been a thrill.
I am reading Shirly Jump right now and I found her on a blog or website of some of my favourite chat groups.
I like her stories because they are humourous and sexy and her hunky hereos like there woman with a lots of curves and don't care that they arn't a size 10 or 12. I wish someone had wrote like this 30yrs ago and then I think we would not have a phobia about what we weigh today and be happy with who we are.
Sandi great post. Sounds like a nice dinner and the tables look great. I picked up a Susan McBride book when I heard her talk at a library function.
WOW,
Sandi, that is soo cool. I'm jealous. I love Sherrilyn Kenyon. I'm happy for you that you got to meet here.
I wish I could have been there - looks like you all had a great time!
Sounds like all of you had a blast. I hope to make it next year!
