Jenna Petersen | In Search of A Topic!

Jenna PetersenWhen the fabulous ladies of Fresh Fiction contacted me and asked if I would guest blog today, my first reaction was to be excited. We’ve all met a few times and they are, of course, lovely and fabulous and always fun to hang out with. So now I’m hanging out with them in a virtual world.

My second reaction was to freak out because I realized I had no topic. I tried to sneakily ask for a topic, but was told that I could blog about ‘anything’! Oh boy! Anything. Which means I can blog about ANYTHING and that doesn’t narrow it down at all.

So I went out in search of a topic. I went blog hopping. Yes, this was a travesty. To have to hop from interesting blog to interesting blog, reading fabulous authors’ words about a variety of topics. Yeah. Poor me, right? But as great as it was, it didn’t help me at all. A lot of authors were talking about writing, which I’m always happy to talk about (after all, I run The Passionate Pen , but Fresh Fiction is more about readers and authors coming together and I didn’t think that writing about plotting or the industry of romance would fit very well. If I’m wrong, let me know, since Jess Michaels will be blogging here later this month. And I have some ‘influence’ over her. :)

But that still leaves me in a bit of a quandary. So I thought I’d tell you a bit about my summer. It’s August already, which just blows me away. This summer has flown by the same way it used to when I was a kid between school. You remember those summers, don’t you? When you felt like before the summer was started, it was already over and you were back to school?

SeductionThat’s been this summer for me. And I blame it all on Fall. You see, I have two books out this Fall. In October, I’ll have Seduction Is Forever out as Jenna Petersen. This is the final book in the Lady Spies series, so I’m extra excited and nervous about it. I have enjoyed every moment of writing this series. I started out to write something fun and exciting and I ended up falling in love with my heroines. And lusting, just a little bit, over my heroes. When that happens, it’s just one of the best things for an author. So I hope you all will enjoy the end of the series.

And if that wasn’t enough to make the next few months fly by, then in November my alter-ego, Jess Michaels, will have her very first full-length erotic historical romance, Everything Forbidden. After writing a variety of novellas since my debut “Ancient Pleasures” in Secrets, Volume 11 in 2004, this is another thing that has me jumping out of my skin with excitement and pure nerves.

Add to that travel, my birthday (which was yesterday) and getting Lasik (on Wednesday of this week) and I am plain tuckered out and wondering what I’ll do with the last fleeting days of lazy warmth and fun in the sun.

Any suggestions? And what are YOU doing for YOUR summer?

I’m giving away an advanced copy of Everything Forbidden to one lucky person who comments on the blog or asks a question today!

Hi Jenna! I totally understand the whole freaking out over what to blog. Jacki Frank asked me to blog on her page this month *biting nails* while she was on vacation! So that is what I am doing on the 14ht!
Sounds like you had a pretty busy summer! Mine wasn't too busy. Just very stressful. My husband and I have been struggling for the past 3 weeks to quit smoking! For the last 2 weeks we smoked about 2 cigarettes each a day. Which is freakin awesome. But yesterday that came to an end when we finally ran out! We have never stuck with trying to quit for this long. Soon, very soon we will be able to say that we have quit smoking!! I could say it now but it is still too much of a struggle.

Take care and enjoy to rest of your summer.

Hey Jenna,

First off Happy Belated Birthday! Also, I've had a number of friends do the Lasik...and they have LOVED IT! Good luck on that!

Hmmmm summertime stuff? Mainly just working on the manuscript, continuing Suklaa's training as a therapy dog and staying cool! With a week in Florida thrown into that. THAT was great, being able to meet 2 of my online friends while there.

Looking forward to the books hon!

Love, Light and Laughter,

Along with rapidly going through my TBR book case (altho not faster than I'm picking up new books), I've been out of town for a concert, a couple of days in Vegas and a trip to Sea World San Antonio & the surrounding area.

My mini vacations are over and I've got tons of work to do, but that doesn't stop me from going through several books each week.

Sounds like everyone is having a good summer! Thanks for the birthday wishes, too. It was a lovely day. I mostly relaxed due to the surgery the day before. But I'm seeing 20-20!!! :)

HI,

I think a good topic might be a story about a couple dealing with the real every day challenges of an injury that occurred while they are already involved in their relationship. Not necessarily a life-threatening injury but one that definitely changes their lives because of finances, ability to do certain activities, etc.

This is part of what I have been dealing with this summer and after giving it some thought ... decided someone with talent might be able to use this and make it into a plot.

Thanks,

Ally/friendlybbw

Congrats on the Lasix and Happy Belated Birthday (I didn't get to earlier)!
Well...seeing as its been over 100 degrees for the past month, I've been staying in the house with the kiddies! They're driving me nuts but thankfully school begins on the 20th. Next week is their last week of freedom (they have actually been off from school since May 20th).

Hello from HOT Florida. Could it get any hotter!?
Lets see, this summer I got rid of my nine year to the inlaws. He had fun and learned how to swim. While he was gone I went to Dallas and met some nice authors. Sadly I had to come back. Now we are getting ready for school to start in a week and I am so excited! lol
I already wished you Happy Birthday and you are welcome. I hope it was fabulous!

I am also from Florida. The family and I just returned from Universal Studios in Orlando. Which is our official vacation every year, since it is only a 2 hour drive from here. Next year we want to give Disney a try. I will probably spend the rest of the summer reading and writing. I have a goal to add some new authors into my reading.

Sorry I don't have any great suggestions for the blog. If you wanted to blog about writing that would be fine. Maybe you could write about how you find your inspiration when writing?

Hi Jenna, I remember summer lasting much longer when I was a kid than it usually does now, flies away much too fast. This year we've had pretty good weather overall in CT, mostly outside with friends and at my sister's pool. I'm hoping to get to the shore at Rhode Island before summer's over - maybe we'll get an extended Indian summer and enjoy warm, sunny weather a bit longer.

Glad to see Jess coming out with a full-length, I did like the Secret short.

My summer is ending with legs covered in mosquito bites...or some kind of bug bite. I have been putting creams and sprays all over them to no avail. As I sit here typing this, my legs are itchy all over, driving me absolutely nuts! I think I have anywhere between 30 and 40 bites.

Nice, huh?

Jenna, I have just 'discovered' you, loved your 'tell me the story' so much that I am now hooked on Jenna Peterson! Next time I get out of the boonies and into a bookstore, I'll be picking up your books!

It has been very, very hot here in NC this summer. I like hot weather, but this is extreme with four 100+ days in a row (104 actual on Friday). Cooling off to the low 90's on Saturday. When it gets that hot, I stay inside with the AC, a tall glass of iced sweet tea and a good book (several good books actually). Throw in a few DVDs for good measure and I am happy.

Jenna, when will we see new pix of you? Shedding pounds and glasses, girl you are becoming a knock-out!

Hey everyone,

Sorry I got distracted yesterday, but all your comment are awesome! Karen, I'm thinking I'll get a new picture while I'm in Seattle. A friend who lives there is a professional photographer (she's done fashion shots and everything) so I'm thinking I might see if she could do a shoot for me.
